Nxt (NXT) is an open-source cryptocurrency and payment network. It was launched in November 2013 by anonymous software developer BCNext. Nxt is unique as it is created from scratch and written in Java. It utilizes proof-of-stake, a method of achieving distributed consensus and securing a cryptocurrency network, to provide consensus for transactions. Unlike other cryptocurrencies, Nxt has a static money supply and does not rely on mining. The main purpose of Nxt is to serve as a flexible platform for building applications and financial services. It offers various features such as an integrated asset exchange (similar to shares), a messaging system, and a marketplace. Additionally, future releases of Nxt will allow users to create new currencies within the system.
