PoW is the original consensus algorithm used by Bitcoin, where miners compete to solve complex mathematical puzzles to validate transactions and add them to the blockchain. PoS, on the other hand, relies on validators who hold a certain amount of cryptocurrency to create new blocks and validate transactions. The main difference between the two is that PoW requires a significant amount of computational power, while PoS requires a significant amount of cryptocurrency holdings.
