- Dec 26, 2021 · 3 years agoDDoS attacks were a major concern for the cryptocurrency industry in 2016. One of the most effective exploits used was the DNS amplification attack. This attack involved sending a small DNS query to a vulnerable server, which would then respond with a much larger DNS response. By spoofing the source IP address, attackers could direct the amplified traffic towards their target, overwhelming their network and causing service disruptions. To defend against these attacks, cryptocurrency exchanges implemented DNS rate limiting and traffic filtering to block malicious traffic. They also worked closely with their network service providers to identify and mitigate DDoS attacks in real-time. However, the evolving nature of DDoS attacks made it challenging to completely eliminate the risk.
